When Donald Trump announced earlier this week that he would be holding a news conference next Monday to reveal new proof that he secretly won the 2020 election, we said that there were less than 50-50 odds that it would even end up happening. Then today his own attorneys told the media that they’d advised him not to do it.

Sure enough, Trump now announced on social media that he’s canceling his news conference. Trump’s drivel, in part, reads like this: “Rather than releasing the Report on the Rigged & Stolen Georgia 2020 Presidential Election on Monday, my lawyers would prefer putting this, I believe, Irrefutable & Overwhelming evidence of Election Fraud & Irregularities in formal Legal Filings … Therefore, the News Conference is no longer necessary!”

Well okay then. We all saw that coming. But this is what happens when you’re so cornered from all sides that you have no good options and you’re already a lock to spend the rest of your life in prison. Trump doesn’t want to have to accept the fact that his life is over, so he’s desperately clinging to any delusional fantasy that will allow him to pretend he still has a reason to get out of bed in the morning.

Of course Trump got excited when someone around him claimed to have new “proof” that he secretly won the 2020 election. Of course he wanted to hold a news conference about it. He has to keep trying to convince himself that his life isn’t really over. And of course he didn’t want to have to give up on his latest delusional magic carpet rescue fantasy even after his attorneys explained to him that it’s not real. But Trump did ultimately pull the plug – proof that deep down he does indeed know his life is over. He might as well just report to prison now.
