Now that Donald Trump has lost his second E. Jean Carroll civil trial, he has a difficult decision to make. If he wants to appeal the verdict, he’ll have to put up a massive bond, which he may or may not be able to come up with. And if he doesn’t appeal, then he’ll immediately owe $83.3 million to Carroll, which he may not be able to come up with either.

So what is Trump going to do? He doesn’t seem sure. But it does appear that if he tries to appeal the verdict, he’ll be doing it with someone other than attorney Alina Habba. Trump posted on social media that “I am in the process, along with my team, of interviewing various law firms to represent me in an Appeal of one of the most ridiculous and unfair Witch Hunts our Country has ever seen…”

Blah blah blah. You get the idea. Trump has no good options, and he’ll have to pick from among his bad options. But it is interesting that he doesn’t even appear to be considering a scenario where Habba leads the appeal.

So has Trump figured out that having Habba represent him in the trial was a bad idea? Or is Trump just doing that thing where he goes through attorneys the way the rest of us go through tissues? We’ll see.
