With House Republicans resigning, retiring early, and even getting expelled, their already-slim majority keeps getting even narrower. Each time their numbers drop, they become even more comically inept. And now their numbers just dropped even further.

In the special election to replace House Republican George Santos, Democratic candidate Tom Suozzi has won according to Decision Desk. Given that this is an evenly matched toss-up district that has a recent history of being won by both parties, any sized victory by Suozzi is considered a good sign for the Democrats heading into November.

More immediately, this means the House Republicans now have an even slimmer majority. It’ll make it even harder for them to carry out their agenda. And it means that if scandal or indictment takes down another House Republican or two during the course of 2024, the House majority could flip even before we get to November.

This is also obviously a good sign for President Joe Biden. So much for the notion that he and his party are “in trouble.”
