There’s no doubt that what’s playing out in Afghanistan is tragic, deadly, and dangerous. But who’s really to blame for the debacle?

Former Assistant New York Attorney General Tristan Snell made an apt analogy:

“Imagine if, with Vietnam, Nixon had released Ho Chi Minh from prison 3 years before the fall of Saigon? That’s what just happened in Afghanistan. Taliban leader Baradar was in prison after we captured him in 2010. Trump released him in 2018.”
