Our bullshitter-in-chief seems bewildered that he must follow the rule of law now that he’s in the White House. He expects his appointments to work for him, not the office, as if the government is his own personal defense system. This is the effect of a personality cult versus an administration that is focused on the issues, not on the charismatic personality of Donald Trump.

Trump needs to surround himself with sycophants. The fact that Attorney General Jeff Sessions and recently departed White House Counsel Don McGahn seem immune to his charms continues to drive him crazy, and he can’t seem to let it go. Apparently, in a fit of pique after finding out that McGahn cooperated with Mueller’s investigation, Trump was finally pushed over the edge and cut McGahn loose.

Donald Trump is a dangerous ally to have. Anyone who knows how to read understands that McGahn is counsel to the office of the president, not counsel to Trump, the man. Trump knows this but he cannot comprehend a world where Mr. McGahn doesn’t give up his integrity in exchange for a pat on the back by The Donald. Trump blames McGahn for the appointment of Robert Mueller.

In Trump’s world however, McGahn is supposed to pledge his undying loyalty to Trump and then go jump off a cliff to prove himself. Fortunately for McGahn, he kept his head and refused to be turned by Trump, which is why he may not be facing prison time. As a result, in a typical display of ugliness, Trump publicly announced McGahn’s departure before informing McGahn himself.

Similarly, Donald Trump has not been able to let go of his animus toward Jeff Sessions for recusing himself from the Trump-Russia investigation, a move which at the time was, again, widely lauded by people on both sides of the aisle for being appropriate. As we know, Trump does not recognize what is appropriate and inappropriate, which is a big reason why his fans love him so much. However, it is worth noting that most of Trump’s friends and associates are criminals and are going down for it. His fans should consider and perhaps should be grateful that Trump is just their president and not their ally.
