Last week multiple major news outlets reported that the Department of Justice has had a January 6th grand jury running against Trump world since at least January. This disproved all the “DOJ is doing nothing” narratives, and proved that the DOJ is at least trying to get to Trump by targeting his people. Now we’re getting confirmation that the DOJ is directly investigating Donald Trump on a different matter.

The Garland DOJ has a consistent habit of trying to keep its criminal probes as secret as possible, for as long as possible. That secrecy usually remains intact right up until something happens that forces the probe out into the open. For instance, the House Oversight Committee is trying to obtain National Archives records that document Trump having taken classified documents with him on his way out of the White House. The DOJ is blocking this move, and now it’s come to a head.

It’s not difficult to logically figure out that the DOJ’s decision to block these records means that the DOJ is in fact investigating Trump for having taken the documents. And sure enough, the Washington Post and CNN are now reporting that the DOJ is in fact investigating Trump for having taken the documents.

This shatters, once and for all, the popular narratives that “the DOJ isn’t investigating Trump or won’t investigate Trump” or that “Merrick Garland is protecting Trump.” These claims were always fairly ludicrous on their face from the very start. And subtle hints have been emerging for months that pointed to the DOJ investigating Trump, even before confirmation arrived that the DOJ has a grand jury targeting Trump world. Now today we have confirmation that the DOJ is investigating Trump himself.

We’re now about to hear a whole lot of defeatist rhetoric about how “we’re running out of time” or “it’s too late” or “the DOJ won’t go through with it.” But that rhetoric will come from the same people who have spent the past months insisting with 100% certainty that the DOJ had decided to let Trump off the hook. Even as the defeatists try to move the goalposts to cover for how wrong they were, back in the real world it’s more clear than ever that Merrick Garland and his DOJ are indeed looking to take Donald Trump down, and have been for quite awhile.
