It’s been said that the coverup is always worse than the crime. The implication is that the attempt at coverup is what gets someone nailed for the crime to begin with. But this only really applies to failed coverups. When a coverup is successful, no one knows that the coverup even existed; that’s the entire point. This brings us to Donald Trump.

Alarmists keep insisting that Trump is “getting away with” this or that secret evil plan. But these types are always wrong by definition. If Trump is indeed getting away with something, then it’s something that no one even knows about. It’s been successfully covered up. If Trump tries to pull some con and we find out about it, that’s something he isn’t getting away with, because the attempt at keeping a secret was a failed one.

Take, for instance, whatever is going on with Trump Media. The merger involved a ton of money on paper, and the stock price keeps fluctuating as scandalous news surfaces about the company. Yesterday two people pleaded guilty to insider trading in relation to the deal. Suffice it to say that Trump and his people are not getting away with whatever is going on here, because it’s already gone wrong for them. Not only are some of them getting busted, they’re cutting plea deals. It’ll only get uglier.

Whatever the underlying con is with the Trump Media deal, if it had been done right, you wouldn’t be reading about it. You might have your suspicions about the legitimacy of the deal, because everything Trump does is corrupt. But you wouldn’t be seeing ugly news leaking when it’s not supposed to, or plea deals in a federal criminal investigation into the merger. What we’re seeing with Trump Media is the definition of a failed coverup, which means more will keep coming out, and no one will be “getting away” with it.

Then there’s the fact that Donald Trump’s attempt at posting bond has been (at least temporarily) rejected by the courts, because the bond company failed to include the required disclosures about its own financial status. We don’t know what’s going on here. But if this was an attempt at pulling a fast one, it’s failed. The point of pulling a fast one would be to file the paperwork in such a way as to avoid scrutiny. Instead the paperwork was filed in such a way that’s brought immediate scrutiny from both the courts and the media. Maybe this is just extreme incompetence. But if it was an attempt at covering something up, it’s already failed, and it’ll all come out.

What stands out here is that Donald Trump seems to be getting caught in the act with increasing frequency these days. He’s been scheming for decades. His entire life has been one attempt at a coverup after another. The ones he’s “gotten away” with were the ones you didn’t read about, because that’s what a successful coverup is. Trump’s increasingly frequent failed coverups – the ones you’re reading about because the coverup attempt failed to keep things under cover – are what point to him unraveling at an accelerating rate.
