Bill Barr’s life just got a lot more complicated
Ever since Bill Barr’s original sin of burying the Mueller report, he’s largely tried to avoid further incriminating himself. For instance, Barr announced that he was indicting longtime Trump nemesis Andrew McCabe, in the hope of pleasing Trump – but Barr didn’t actually indict McCabe.
Now that an increasingly senile Donald Trump has inexplicably decided that keeping Michael Flynn out of prison is somehow the key to the 2020 election, Bill Barr was left with no choice but to finally take real action – sort of. By corruptly seeking the withdrawal of the criminal case against Flynn, Barr has opened himself up to additional obstruction of justice charges, while also leaving an opening for the judge to derail the whole thing.
Now it turns out Judge Emmet Sullivan isn’t merely pushing back against Bill Barr’s dismissal request. Sullivan is formally seeking the input of anyone who wants to file an amicus brief about the case. This means that the DOJ people who brought the Flynn case to begin with, and were then pushed out of the DOJ by Barr, will get a chance to spell out precisely what corrupt things Barr has done in this case.
This means that Bill Barr is about to be on the hot seat. The judge appears to be intent on using the Flynn case as a platform for exposing Barr’s antics. Once this train gets rolling, the media will be covering Barr fervently, turning him into a liability for Trump. Then we’ll see whether the ever-disloyal Trump decides that Barr is more trouble than he’s worth. We told you Barr’s stunt was unlikely to work out well for Trump or Barr, and now we’re already starting to see the seeds of that.
