Beg your pardon!
Talk of pardons is in the air! One cannot turn on the internet or the TV without hearing all this pardon talk.
Some fake pundits, desperate for ratings, are mischievously speculating on whether President Biden could pardon Donald Trump. This is fake news, completely absurd, and yet some pundits are shamelessly hawking this stupid idea.
Another conversation about pardons is coming from the man, the nightmare, and the non-legend — Donald Trump himself.
Trump is demanding that all competitors in the presidential race on the Republican side make pledges to pardon him. What a putz!
And Trump is being unrelenting in his demands for other Republicans to make promises to absolve him from any wrongdoing.
So what will the Republicans do? Many are lying low. Nikki Haley, obsessed with Mr. Trump liking her, has already begun to murmur that she’s open to a pardon.
Pence, who seems to change his mind on Trump daily, is laying low, as is Ron DeSantis. Trump seems to regard pardons as Good and Plenty Licorice. They’re there, they’re luscious, and there’s plenty of them to go around.
Only some Republicans are not falling into the trap. And it IS a trap. Because any Republican who solemnly promises to pardon Trump would have to explain their promise to the American people during a general election. I imagine that would not go ever well.
So, for now, anyway, it appears pardon-speak will stay around for a while. Take it with a grain of salt.
