Earlier this week a recording surfaced in which Arizona Republican Party Chair Jeff DeWit appeared to offer Kari Lake a lucrative job opportunity if she was willing to drop out of the 2024 Senate race. Now DeWit has resigned in the wake of the worsening scandal.

There are two things at play here. First, it’s clear that the Arizona Republican Party knows what the rest of us know: Kari Lake is a crappy candidate who struggles in general elections. The party chair was desperately trying to get her out of the race in the hope of improving the Republicans’ chances of winning the Senate seat in 2024.

Second, it’s clear that the lunatics are running the asylum when it comes to the Republican Party. Instead of getting rid of a lousy lunatic candidate like Kari Lake, the GOP has gotten rid of the party chair who tried to get rid of Kari Lake. Good luck with that. Lake’s Democratic opponent will be Ruben Gallego. You can donate to his 2024 campaign here.
