This new coronavirus outbreak in Amy Coney Barrett’s kids’ school could derail her confirmation hearing

The Trump regime has been going out of its way to sabotage any contact tracing from its White House Rose Garden super spreader event, for fear of what it might end up revealing about how the virus got into the event, and how the virus left the event. Now it turns out the Trump regime had good reason to worry.

The Rose Garden event, which Donald Trump used to announce far right extremist Amy Coney Barrett as his illegitimate Supreme Court nominee, saw almost no one wearing masks – including Barrett’s kids. Given the proximity and the fact that so many others around them have since tested positive, it’s difficult to imagine that Barrett and her kids didn’t catch coronavirus at the event.

Now it turns out there is indeed a coronavirus outbreak at Amy Coney Barrett’s kids’ school, according to a predictable New York Times report. While this could be a coincidence, it’s a small private school, so that seems unlikely. Unfortunately for the Trump regime, this means that the testing and contact tracing is now out of its hands, and in the hands of the school. And considering that the school is already actively notifying parents of the outbreak, it doesn’t appear that the school has any interest in helping Trump and Barrett cover up what might have happened here.

If it can be proven that Amy Coney Barrett’s kids did indeed catch coronavirus at the White House super spreader event and then caused an outbreak at their school, it could be the thing that derails her confirmation hearing, at least for now. Barrett already had coronavirus once before, but she would still need to quarantine, because there’s no proof that immunity exists.

Even a fairly minor delay in the lengthy and complex confirmation hearing process could be enough to prevent Amy Coney Barrett from being confirmed before election day. If Trump and the Senate Republicans lose the election, they could still try to ram her through during the lame duck session. But we’d have ways of fighting back against that, and right now it’s one battle at a time.
