Donald Trump presumably put Alina Habba in charge of his defense in his second E. Jean Carroll trial because Habba was willing to give Trump the kind of representation he wanted. Unfortunately for them both, the kind of defense Trump wanted was incoherent, stupid, and ineffective, and helped cost him $83.3 million.

Of course Trump loves nothing more than doubling down on his mistakes. And so after he and Habba lost this trial, Habba suddenly began claiming that the judge in the case had a personal connection with Carroll’s attorney that made for a conflict of interest.

This prompted Carroll’s attorney to threaten seeking sanctions over the matter, so now Habba is cutting and running by insisting she just wants to move on from the whole thing. Of course it may be too late. Carroll’s attorney can still seek sanctions against Habba if she wants.

This comes after E. Jean Carroll appeared on the Rachel Maddow show last night and said that if Donald Trump keeps coming after her, she’s absolutely willing to go back into court against him. Trump’s problems in this case could just be getting started.
