Just how poorly are things going for House Republican George Santos? His official campaign fundraising haul for the most recent quarter was negative-$16,000. That’s right, he technically brought in negative money, because he was forced to refund a bunch of fraudulent donations and didn’t bring in enough actual donations to even so much as get back to zero.

To that end, Santos is now using Jim Jordan’s faltering Speaker bid of all things as an excuse to try to fundraise for himself. Suffice it to say that it isn’t going well for him.

Within minutes of posting the fundraising Tweet, Santos received more than a hundred negative replies, mostly from people pointing out that he’s under criminal indictment for campaign finance fraud. Someone quipped that “George Santos’ parole officer has entered the chat.” While that was a joke, Santos is out on bail, and it’s a certainty that his every move is being watched to see if he is engaging in further fraud.

George Santos said that “NY-3 is cornered, I need you all to stand up and help me stay in the fight!” It looks like most people want to fight against him. Meanwhile, the Democrats are uniting behind Anna Kaplan as their candidate in NY-3, whether that ends up being in November 2024 or sooner in a special election.
