Now that Roger Stone’s Oath Keeper driver has cut a plea deal against him with the DOJ, there appears to be a chain reaction. Documentary makers have suddenly given January 6th video footage to the Washington Post that proves Stone guilty of seditious conspiracy. If the DOJ didn’t have the footage before, it does now.

Although it got way too little media coverage, and the outlets that did cover it downplayed the impact on Stone, this week’s Oath Keeper cooperating plea deal against Stone is the turning point in the 1/6 criminal probe, and proves the DOJ is (methodically) playing for keeps.

Most of the pundit chatter today will be about how awful it is that Stone “is getting away with it all” in spite of video footage proving his guilt – but that’s backwards. This footage surfaced today because everyone found out that the DOJ is targeting Stone.

Yes, this footage of Stone would have surfaced eventually anyway. But this documentary isn’t supposed to come out until later this year. The filmmakers had to have seen the plea deal against Stone, realized he’s a DOJ criminal target, and released the footage so the DOJ would have it.

So where does this leave us? This week’s cooperating plea deal all but ensured Roger Stone will be indicted for seditious conspiracy. The guy who cut the deal has, by rule, already given the DOJ all the evidence and testimony he has on Stone. And now the DOJ has Stone’s own damning words on video, which will help boost the odds of conviction at trial.

But this largely leaves us where we already were. For a few months it’s been fairly obvious that the DOJ was criminally targeting Roger Stone for January 6th. The plea deal made it 100% obvious. Even with this video footage going public, there’s no reason to expect the DOJ to move any faster, or slower, than it was already going to move. It’s just that now the public has a better understanding of the fact that Stone is guilty, and is going down. Perhaps we can now collectively spend less time complaining about how the DOJ is supposedly doing “nothing,” and instead focus on fighting and winning important battles – including the 2022 midterms.
