Donald Trump is confused
Now that Donald Trump has been criminally indicted on a combined total of seventy-two felony counts and is awaiting multiple criminal trials, you’d think he might wise up and try to focus on the kind of defense strategy that might actually give himself a chance at trial. We’re not sure if there’s any “good” strategy Trump could even use at this point. But he’s certainly picked just about the worst strategy possible.
Trump keeps insisting that the laws somehow don’t say what they really say. He continued this theme today with this social media meltdown: “The PRESIDENTIAL RECORDS ACT rules the FAKE Indictment brought against me by the Department of Injustice and Deranged Jack Smith. They never even mention this FACT.”
It’s that last part that’s surreal. Not only is Trump fantasizing about what the law even says, he’s going on to complain that no one in the real world is indulging in his fantasy. It’s like when the drunk at the end of the bar claims that all birds are secretly robots, and then points to the media’s total lack of coverage of this “scandal” as supposed proof of a coverup.
Of course the guy at the bar is just drunk and maybe he’ll sober up the next day and return to the real world. But Donald Trump doesn’t exist in the real world. Now that everything has fallen apart for him, he lives in some fantasy world where he’s still large and in charge. The worse things get for Trump, the more he seemingly becomes confused about what’s even real. He’s already at a point where he’s telling himself the law says something different than what it says, just so he can get through the day without giving up – and he’s not even at trial yet.
