Here’s the cooperating witness against Mark Meadows and Donald Trump
During the brief period in which Mark Meadows was cooperating with the January 6th Committee, by all accounts he turned over a ton of evidence against himself and others. Once he remembered how much legal trouble he was in, he then refused to give the committee context for that evidence. But details have continued to surface about what Meadows and Donald Trump were saying and doing during the election overthrow timeframe.
That’s partly because one of Meadows’ former top White House aides, Cassidy Hutchinson, has been cooperating with the January 6th Committee. She’s been helpful enough that the committee is now preparing to have her publicly testify in one of the upcoming televised hearings.
Now, just ahead of that public testimony, Hutchinson has reportedly parted ways with her Trump-connected attorney. This suggests that she’s about to go all-in against Trump and Meadows with her public testimony, and she feels compelled to distance herself from any potential conflicts of interest.
It’s nearly a given that the DOJ will also seek (or already has sought) Hutchinson’s testimony. The DOJ recently announced that it will not be indicting Meadows for contempt at this time – which most likely means that the DOJ is targeting Meadows on a much broader array of charges and doesn’t want to screw them up with a comparatively ticky tack contempt indictment in the meantime.
