Donald Trump keeps threatening to falsely declare victory on Tuesday night, even if there’s no indication that he’s winning or will win, and hope that doing so will somehow magically hand him the election result. Here’s the thing: nothing works that way, as Rachel Maddow just thoroughly spelled out.
Maddow used her MSNBC show tonight to point to historical examples of people arbitrarily declaring themselves the “winner” of things, from sporting events to the lottery, only to end up being thoroughly humiliated for it. As Maddow explained, simply declaring something doesn’t make it so, and if Trump tries such a stunt, it won’t get him anywhere.
Rachel Maddow will be one of the MSNBC anchors on election night, so it’s good to know where she and her colleagues stand when it comes to shutting Trump down if he tries anything tomorrow night.
