Senate Democrats promised they’d do everything they could to stop Donald Trump’s sham nomination of his own corrupt lackey Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court, and this morning they started making good on that promise. The minute Senate Judiciary Committee Chuck Grassley tried to begin the fraudulent hearings, numerous Democratic Senators began taking turns interrupting him. Grassley was overwhelmed and had no idea how to fight back, as the Democrats kept steamrolling him. That’s when Trump decided to get involved, so to speak.

Donald Trump hadn’t tweeted in seventeen hours. It’s very rare for him to skip his morning Twitter meltdown, but he seemed content to stay out of the way of the Kavanaugh hearings. That was, of course, until they promptly started off poorly for him. Senator Richard Blumenthal immediately called for a recess, citing the Republicans’ last minute document dump stunt. Senator Kamala Harris wasted no time piling on. Senator Cory Booker and others joined the fray.

Chuck Grassley came off like a feeble parking lot attendant trying to explain to a biker gang why they’d need to park their Harleys elsewhere. Right around the time Grassley seemed to be trying to decide whether to fake a heart attack, Donald Trump tried to get him off the hook by changing the subject. Trump tweeted this nonsense: “NBC FAKE NEWS, which is under intense scrutiny over their killing the Harvey Weinstein story, is now fumbling around making excuses for their probably highly unethical conduct. I have long criticized NBC and their journalistic standards-worse than even CNN. Look at their license?”

So now Donald Trump is back to making hollow threats about pulling the transponder license for a major American broadcast news network. Moreover, he’s sexually harassed and sexually assaulted at least twenty women, meaning he has no business saying anything about the Harvey Weinstein story. In any case, Trump’s deranged tweet didn’t seem to do much to distract the public from the disastrous Kavanaugh hearings.
