You know it’s bad when…

The midterm season has officially begun in full, with Republicans pushing a wildly reckless spending bill that’s just about as dangerous as it is unpopular. You know it’s bad because Lisa Murkowski, who occasionally pretends to be a sensible moderate went and voted for it after getting her own handwritten carve out amid a lot of media attention and then almost immediately after her vote, started talking House Republicans out of doing the same.

There were still holdouts from her own party, with Susan “concerned” Collins voting against it to save her own favorability rating back home and Thom Tillis who furiously denounced the bill on the Senate floor, but abruptly announced his own retirement rather than deal with a Trump worshipping challenger next year.

The Trump-Musk feud has been reignited after this bill passed the Senate, and I don’t particularly have a favorite team there – just that the more these buffoons fight publicly, the worse it’ll be for both of them. Our focus right now is getting the Republicans out of every office they can possibly lose in the 2026 midterms – and right now the seat in North Carolina, which held steady in November from where it was four years earlier, is a clear target for us with the right candidate.

Although flipping the Senate looks difficult from where we are right now, remember that every seat counts – and flipping two this cycle means two that we won’t need to worry about in 2028, particularly with few seats where we need to play defense.
