The bikers Donald Trump thinks are headed to his inauguration? That’s a photo from 2013

Donald Trump is very excited about the horde of bikers who are currently en route to Washington DC in order to attend his inauguration. In fact he’s so excited that he’s been bragging about it on Twitter, and pointing to it as evidence that his inauguration isn’t going to be poorly attended bust that most Americans are expecting. One little problem: his enthusiasm is mistakenly based on a four year old photograph of bikers on some other continent.

Hey Donald, try this.

In a story which both BuzzFeed and Media Matters were able to expose, some of Donald Trump’s own supporters began circulating a photograph of bikers in Spain in 2013 and falsely labeling it as being American bikers on their way to the Trump inauguration in 2017.

Trump somehow managed to fall for the hoax himself, tweeting that “People are pouring into Washington in record numbers. Bikers for Trump are on their way. It will be a great Thursday, Friday and Saturday!” He’ll be shocked when those bikers don’t show up on Friday.

Perhaps Trump should hire some more of those seat fillers. Or just stay off Twitter.
