So much for Lisa Murkowski

Betrayal. That is the word that many are using to describe the actions of one Lisa Murkowski. The Senator from Alaska knows this bill is wrong and voted for it anyway. That should shatter the last vestige of Murkowski’s dignity along with any illusions she was ever a moderate in the first place.

I cannot possibly do justice to the amount of pushback the Alaskan Senator is getting. Murkowski had a choice. To vote for this bill or to kill it in its bloody tracks. She had the choice to take her inspiration from another Republican senator.

Who could forget that history-making scene? It was in the wee hours of darkness. The GOP held their breath as they waited for what they had dreamed of — drooled over — the chance to end the Affordable Health Care Act. Yes, everyone was ready to go. Then, like a magnificent gold finch seen appearing out of the fog of evil, one John McCain paused — and voted THUMBS DOWN, as he saved healthcare for millions.

It was a moment that lives on in memory. It was an amazing moment that the GOP should have learned from. They did not. I’ve no doubt that a lot of strings were pulled to get this bill over the finish line. I have no doubt that Murkowski was placated, and tempted, and talked down to and vilified.

But she should not be a member of the senate if she cannot stand up to power at its most corrupt. Murkowski betrayed millions. She betrayed her oath of office. She KNEW she was doing wrong and chose to do it anyway. How very REPUBLICAN of her.
