Donald Trump runs out of gas

Michigan Congressman Justin Amash is the first Republican in Congress to support the impeachment of “President” Donald Trump. The Congressman’s reasoning is well laid out, and his reasons are in line with others who support impeachment. Amash also confirmed that the GOP as a whole has not even bothered to read the Mueller report, and has merely decided to defend Trump no matter what. This is wrong on so many levels.

As reported by CNN, Amash is the rare congressional Republican critic of Trump. Amash said that the Mueller report establishes multiple examples of Trump committing obstruction of justice, and that Barr’s portrayal of the report patently misled the American people as to the report’s contents. Where have we heard that song before?

Amash states specifically that “Barr’s misrepresentations are significant but often subtle, frequently taking the form of slight-of-hand qualifications or logical fallacies, which he hopes people will not notice.” Indeed, Barr surely did not expect the response he received to his whitewashing, as like Trump, he assumed we’re all too stupid to think for ourselves, let alone that we would take the time to read the report ourselves. The joke was on him. It’s a shame that other Republicans in office refuse to see what Amash sees (and even more of a shame that he’s not in the Senate, where we need 20 Republicans for Trump’s removal).

Though he doesn’t agree with Amash’s take, Senator Mitt Romney called Amash “courageous” today, but he doesn’t agree that the findings amount to impeachment. Of course, Romney has been wishy-washy when it comes to Trump. He sometimes speaks up against Trump, but he tends to side with Trump more often than not. Romney points out that the Senate “is certainly not there either” on impeachment, which is no surprise. At least Romney addresses the issue while sounding like a functioning adult, unlike Trump, who predictably went on the attack against Amash.

Donald Trump can’t even be original. As usual, he tweeted his overused insult – “never a fan” – and went on to call Amash a “total lightweight who opposes me and some of our great Republican ideas,” as if the Republicans have any of those. He then accused Amash of trying to “get his name out there.” Sorry, Trump, but everyone isn’t as self-centered as you. Perhaps Amash is one of the few honest Republicans, if not the only one.

Trump called Amash a “loser,” continuing to show that he does not understand the system of checks and balances, which Amash does. Trump also doesn’t understand the damage that blind partisanship is doing to our country and democracy. But, what do we expect from a man whose main goal has always been to enrich himself and elevate his brand, not serve the people? He has got to go, one way or another and by any procedural means necessary. He is a dark stain on history, and we need a big bottle of “shout” to clean him out of the people’s White House.
