Donald Trump desperately wants to fire somebody. He’d love to fire Special Counsel Robert Mueller, but he knows he can’t do it, because millions of Americans would be marching in the streets if he did. Instead Trump appeared to settle on firing FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, who is not even involved in the Trump-Russia investigation, simply because Fox News falsely claimed McCabe is a secret Hillary Clinton plant. Then at the last minute it turned out Trump can’t fire McCabe either. Now he’s going berserk about it.

Trump’s corrupt allies spent all week spreading lies about McCabe, in an attempt at softening up the ground for Trump to get away with firing him. Trump’s criminal co-conspirators in the Republican Congress even hauled in McCabe for questioning on Thursday evening, in the hope he would say something they could take out of context and use as an excuse for supporting his demise. Instead, McCabe dusted off the ace he’d been holding up his sleeve for months.

McCabe used his testimony to inform Congress that then-FBI Director James Comey had told him about Trump’s attempt to get Comey to rig the Russia investigation. This means McCabe is a material witness in the ongoing obstruction of justice investigation into Trump, and therefore Trump would be cementing his own guilt on that obstruction charge if he fires McCabe. So what’s Trump doing about McCabe instead?

This afternoon, Donald Trump tweeted his usual berserk lies about Andrew McCabe. Then he added “FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe is racing the clock to retire with full benefits. 90 days to go?!!!” In other words, Trump is threatening to somehow take McCabe’s pension away. However, this is a clear attempt at witness intimidation, and this tweet will be used in the obstruction of justice case against Trump. So not only did Trump not get fire McCabe, he incriminated himself with his rage-rant anyway.
