Look what’s going on here

Earlier this week I pointed out that even as Republicans were trying to hurry up and ram the most corrupt legislation in history through the House and Senate, Donald Trump was busy announcing plans for a new prison surrounded by sharks. That’s right, Trump’s dementia riddled obsession with getting eaten by a shark has become official White House policy. Now it’s gotten even worse – and in a more substantively harmful way.

Yesterday Trump proudly announced a new trade deal with Vietnam in which U.S. consumers will pay a 20% to 40% tariff on goods imported from Vietnam, but Vietnamese consumers will pay zero tariffs on goods imported from the United States. In other words, Trump’s dementia riddled obsession with tariffs – a word whose definition he still does not know – has prompted him to announce one of the worst trade deals in history.

I know I talk about Trump’s dementia more than some of you want to hear about it. But look at what’s going on. Trump is basing everything from criminal justice policy to international trade deals on the handful of words – tariff, shark – that keep popping into his head while the rest of his brain lies vacant.

This is seriously, seriously dangerous. Donald Trump has become exactly the dementia patient that the media pretended President Biden was. Except Trump is a malignant narcissistic sociopath and convicted felon on top of it. And the Republicans are keeping this lump of clay in office instead of using their power to remove him. How much more of this do we have to put up with before we’re all allowed to talk about the fact that Trump has dementia?
