If you’ve been looking for a sign that even the notoriously oblivious Donald Trump has finally figured out just how screwed he is, that moment may have finally arrived. Amid a flurry of fast paced revelations and developments on Wednesday evening, which saw Congress going after Trump’s son, and Trump firing back by going after just about everyone, one political scholar saw what he believes is a “dead giveaway” that Trump now knows he won’t survive this.

The New York Times posted an interview with Donald Trump in which – among other bizarre things – he threatened to fire Special Counsel Robert Mueller if he digs into the Trump family’s finances as part of his investigation. Trump made clear that he’s more worried about his financial crimes than he is about his Russia election collusion crimes. That led Harvard Law Professor Laurence Tribe, perhaps the nation’s foremost Constitutional expert, to declare the following.

“Threatening to fire Mueller if M looks into Junior’s or Kushner’s finances is a dead giveaway that the jig is up,” (link) Tribe stated on Twitter while also posting a link to the New York Times interview in question (link). Tribe then shared an article from The Hill (link) which revealed that Donald Trump Jr. met with a Russian money launderer, adding “No wonder Trump Sr. gave Mueller an ultimatum: ‘Don’t look at Jr’s finances or you’ll be crossing my red line.'” (link).

Professor Tribe isn’t the only one who now thinks the jig is up for Donald Trump. As Palmer Report pointed out earlier today (link), Donald Trump Jr. is now trying to use the media to steer his father toward resigning from office. Perhaps it’s why Donald Trump has been reduced to tweeting nonsensical things that read like a bad attempt at imitating Edgar Allan Poe (link).
