Donald Trump just lost

Among the bleak news that we’ve been seeing since the beginning of Trump II is the blatant sidelining of the media – something Donald Trump made no secret about during the campaign, and even something that reporters started doing on his behalf before he was even elected.

The media has pretty much nothing to gain from capitulating to Donald Trump or the GOP – particularly when there’s no real way they can fully sanewash or whitewash the awful policies he’s brought forward in the last six months of his administration. He’s only going to get worse and whine that the media is treating him unfairly – and treating right-wingers with kid gloves will sell zero new copies of their issues and get them zero new viewers.

We have seen media outlets like The New York Times and CNN recently push back against the administration, however, when it came to covering the Iran airstrikes, and Monday brought some welcome news during what’s felt like a fairly bleak period. The Trump administration withdrew its lawsuit against the Des Moines Register and pollster Annie Selzer for running a poll that inaccurately showed Kamala Harris ahead in Iowa last October.

No settlement, as the administration was hoping for, and they didn’t have any legal standing, so Des Moines Register refused to fold and they won easily. It’s a clear model to follow – and a reminder that fighting back against Donald Trump is always worth doing.
