Donald Trump’s meltdowns on Twitter are often so deranged, so over the top, so manipulative, and so outright creepy, it’s not necessarily a stretch if you’re tempted to compare him to Charles Manson. Throw in the fact that Trump is overwhelmed to the point of coming off as senile, and you end up with a moment like the one that played out this morning, in which Trump got confused and actually compared himself to Charles Manson.

Trump was in the middle of a crazed rant involving, the NFL, China, and Don King (don’t ask) when he spotted a mention of Charles Manson in his timeline. The New York Times had published an article titled “Charles Manson wasn’t the inevitable outgrowth of the Sixties. If anything, he was a harbinger of today’s far right.” This prompted infamous Trump apologist Laura Ingraham to respond with “‘Far right’? You mean ‘right so far,’ as in Donald Trump has been right so far [about] how to kick the economy into high gear.” Trump signaled his agreement with the statement by retweeting it.

So to be clear, Donald Trump is endorsing the notion that Charles Manson is far right, but it’s a good thing, because “far right” means “right so far” and Trump is right about the economy. Got all that? No? Me either. But I’ve re-read what Trump retweeted ten times now, and I’m still pretty sure Trump really did compare himself to Charles Manson. Either that, or he just endorsed Charles Manson in the Alabama Senate race.

Then again, just moments earlier, after one of Trump’s supporters tweeted that Hillary Clinton was “corrupt,” a confused Trump accused his own supporter of being a Hillary supporter (and then later deleted it). It’s no longer clear that Trump, in his demented haze, even knows what he’s reading – or knows how to read.
