Every living former First Lady of the United States, both Republican and Democrat, has publicly slammed Donald Trump for his decision to separate immigrant kids from their parents and lock them in cages. Of course the current First Lady is the only one who might have any sway over him. Unfortunately, she just posted such a tone-deaf tweet about children that it’s now clear she’s part of the problem – that is, if she even wrote it.

A couple days ago, Melania Trump’s spokesperson released a ridiculous statement encouraging both parties to work together to end the child camps. This was a direct echo of Donald Trump’s false claim that his hands were tied by the law, and that it was up to Congress to solve the mess. Did Melania write the statement? Did Donald write it for her? Who knows? But last night a tweet appeared on her account which made things far worse.

Here’s what Melania tweeted on the official @FLOTUS account: “A great visit with the King & Queen of Spain at the White House today. Queen Letizia & I enjoyed tea & time together focusing on the ways we can positively impact children.” Really? Ways we can positively impact children? Start by telling your husband to unlock his cages and free the thousands of immigrant children he’s brutally taken hostage.

After a month long vanishing act which she never did bother to explain, it’s clear that Melania Trump is now at least partially back in the game, to the point that she’s meeting with foreign heads of state. After Donald Trump was caught tweeting on Melania’s behalf during her absence, has she since regained control over her Twitter account? Did she post this shamefully tone-deaf tweet? Or is she being held hostage too? This all gets sicker by the minute.
