Donald Trump has spent the past two days tweeting toxic garbage in the direction of the co-hosts of the cable news program Morning Joe, either because he’s trying to distract from the burgeoning Trump-Russia collusion story, or because he enjoys being a piece of crap, or both. As Rachel Maddow suggested last night, we shouldn’t allow Trump’s disastrous tweets to fully take the focus off Trump’s disastrous governing. But there is one significant piece of hidden good news in his Morning Joe tweets.

To be as clear as possible, there’s nothing redeemable about these tweets themselves. The person holding the office of President of the United States is revealing himself to be even more of a sick sadist than we had all feared. He’s finding newly perverse ways to attack women. He’s been trying to use personal blackmail to get political reporters to give him softer coverage. This makes Richard Nixon, for all his abuses of power, look like a choir boy. But here’s the one good development in all of this fresh horror: Donald Trump is slipping to the point that he’s begun giving away his own administration’s darkest secrets.

In his eagerness to stick it to the Morning Joe duo yesterday, Trump revealed the plot that Jared Kushner had hatched to try to blackmail them into going easy on him. From this non-attorney’s lay viewpoint, it appears to meet the general legal standard of felony blackmail. Corrupt administrations can only keep getting away with these kinds of crimes if they remain secret. And yet Trump is now giving away these kinds of secrets, either because he subconsciously wants it to all be over with, or because he’s slipping mentally and is no longer cable of keeping secrets. Trump’s handlers can no longer seem to keep him from confessing.

Either way, this is a sign that as Donald Trump continues to rapidly devolve under the pressures of the office, he’s likely to begin giving away even bigger secrets of his campaign and administration. How long before we all wake up to a tweet in which he’s confessing to conspiring with the Russians to try to rig the election while trying to stick it to Hillary Clinton, or confessing to money laundering while trying to brag about how wealthy he is? Trump has entered a period where he’s giving away the kinds of secrets that can completely undo him. So if you’re in the Resistance and you want him undone, there’s your good news.
