The Texas GOP really didn’t think this one through
The Texas GQP adopted their far Reich wing party platform the other day. Along with parroting former guy’s big lie that the election was stolen, the platform also calls for Texas to hold a referendum to secede from the Union.
I wonder if the Branch Trumpvidians who wrote and voted on this really thought this thing through? I don’t think they did. Without the Federal government propping them up I don’t see Texas lasting too long on its own. If Texas leaves the Union, then that’s going to have an economic impact as the military redeploys outside of Texas. I doubt Texas would be able to keep all 14 current military installations open. This will have a cascade effect as businesses also pull out of Texas or curtail operations.
And what are these clowns going to do when Texas can’t keep the lights on or the air conditioners going? Texas is largely isolated on to its own power grid (Texas Interconnect) and older equipment and I could see the manure hitting the wind turbines if they’re totally isolated from the rest of us. Even now some in Texas are not optimistic that the power grid will be able to handle demand this summer.
Also guess what happens to their 38 electoral college votes and representation in Congress? Yep, that also goes away. Meaning it’ll be a bit harder for Republicans to win in the electoral college and will lose a sizeable voting bloc in Congress.
Like I said, I don’t think they thought this through, and if they do leave it’ll be a disaster on many, many levels for people in Texas. But if the Texas GQP wants to cut off their nose to spite their faces, I’m almost at the F it, let them point.
