J.D. Vance. If you are not familiar with that name, you may become familiar soon. Vance is the author of the book “Hillbilly Elegy.” It is about his life growing up in poverty in the Appalachians. He describes his family life, some of it very painful, and his impoverished town’s issues.

Vance was able to become quite successful. He eventually attended Yale University and became a venture capitalist. This book, which I’ve read, was an instant hit scoring a place on the New York Times Best Seller list in 2016 and 2017. It was also turned into a film.

Vance is a Republican. He is from Ohio. And he may be running for the Senate in 2022. And he’d perhaps be formidable. Vance is legitimately from a working-class background and pushed himself above and beyond to achieve the type of success that is difficult for the best of us to come by.

And he’s got a super PAC that just poured $10 million into his coffers. The Democrats can win Ohio. If we could win Georgia and Arizona in 2020, we can certainly succeed in Ohio in 2022. And Vance does come into the fight with a strike already against him.

Vance, in recent months, has started sounding Trumpier. His tweets are becoming increasingly alt-right. It appears Vance, if he does run, wants to do it as a MAGA.

That would be a huge mistake and one the Democrats can seize on. You see, Vance used to be a Trump critic. And he also was moderate. One would not recognize the Vance who wrote “Hillbilly Elegy” anymore. He is becoming interchangeable from the Lindsey Graham’s of the world.

And the Democrats can use that to highlight his hypocrisy. It’s a shame. Vance is an intelligent and accomplished man. But like so many before him, he has chosen to go down the Trump rabbit hole.
