Iowa Republicans go completely off the deep end

Led by Governor Kim โ€œCovidKimโ€ Reynolds Iowaโ€™s Branch Trumpvidian government has been working hard to sabotage the response to the pandemic in order to appeal to Orange Fโ€”k Faceโ€™s (OFF) base. This includes the Iowa Board of Regents, which has been very resistant to any mitigation measures such as requiring people to wear masks in most school settings and trying to cram as many people into classrooms as possible. For example, the Board refuses to allow professors to require masks, even if they have health concerns and punished a UNI professor who decided his health was more important than appeasing the Board.

The Boardโ€™s failure to adequately respond to the pandemic has led faculty, staff, and parents to send an open letter to the Board. This letter requested that a universal mask mandate be imposed for everyone above the age of 2, that people be informed if thereโ€™s any positive cases in their classes or workplaces, that air quality systems be put in place, and that paid leave be given to caretakers who have to take their children or vulnerable dependents out of care providers and need to take time off from work among other things.

I donโ€™t see the Branch Trumpvidians on the Board doing these things. They care more about appeasing CovidKim, the GQP legislature, and OFFโ€™s base than doing the right thing. They have no interest in standing up to CovidKim or her GQP buddies and no interest in doing the right thing. Theyโ€™re doing everything they can to turn Iowa into a backwater, and itโ€™s up to the people of Iowa to vote the Branch Trumpvidians out of office and make Iowa sane again.

This is the fight of our lives. Donald Trump and his unelected henchmen are actively trying to destroy our government, our democracy, and our way of life. We only have one choice, and that's to fight back as loudly and aggressively as possible.
To that end, Palmer Report is expanding. We're bulking up our editorial and research staff and leaving no stone unturned on the editorial front and activism front.
