“I follow Palmer Report and like his stuff but he is constantly saying everyone is going to jail and none of them ever do.”

The above was a piece of feedback posted to Palmer Report today. I think it’s worth addressing, because it points to the lack of familiarity that a lot of people have with how th criminal justice system works – and their apparent total lack of familiarity with the reported details of the various criminal cases we’ve been covering.

For instance, federal prosecutors let it be known to the media a few weeks ago that they were looking to indict and arrest Matt Gaetz in July. And then yesterday it was reported that Gaetz associate Joel Greenberg has apparently panned out as a cooperating witness, helping underscore that, yes, Gaetz will very likely be indicted. To argue that Gaetz has “gotten away with it all,” at a time when his indictment and arrest are pretty clearly on schedule, is logically invalid.

Then there’s the federal criminal case against Rudy Giuliani. Several weeks ago the FBI raided his home and seized his communications. A few weeks ago the judge in the case appointed a special master to sort those communications and turn over the relevant ones to prosecutors. That process takes time, but it’s only headed in one direction. Giuliani is clearly headed for indictment, based on how far the criminal probe has already proceeded. Again, to argue that Giuliani has “gotten away with it all,” even as the criminal probe against him is very clearly closing in on him, is absurd.

And when it comes to Donald Trump, his company was just criminally indicted last week, and his CFO was just arrested last week. Numerous legal experts agree that the text of the indictments points to eventual criminal charges against Donald Trump himself. So again, to argue that he’s “gotten away with it all” when we just saw indictments is… not how anything works.

No one likes having to be patient. But the criminal justice system in this country works at the pace that it works. If some folks have a lack of familiarity with the length of time that it takes for these kinds of criminal cases to unfold, that does not make our predictions inaccurate that this or that person is on track for prison. In each instance, the evidence overwhelmingly points these people indeed being on track for prison.
