What is even going on at this point?
The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped another five hundred points today, in the latest sign that Wall Street has turned firmly against Donald Trump’s trade wars. One of Trump’s cabinet members tried to turn things around by insisting that Trump’s tariffs are actually tax breaks for American consumers, prompting the reporters in the room to all but laugh her off the stage. While this was all playing out, Trump was busy… ranting about Tesla?
Trump spent yesterday declaring on social media that the Americans who are boycotting Tesla are doing so illegally, a surreal level of delusional absurdity even for him. Trump then had some Tesla cars parked out front of the White House so he could do a photo op with Elon Musk. During the photo op, Trump ended up predictably facing questions about the plummeting stock market and tanking economy. His response: “Markets are going to go up, and they’re going to go down,” the latest reminder that Trump’s ability to express a thought is now on par with that of a six year old.
Talk about fiddling while Rome burns. Trump is so deep into dementia – and a malignant narcissistic version of dementia for that matter – that he truly has no concept of what’s going on. His presidency is in full scale collapse just seven weeks in. He’s managed to not only ruin the healthy economy he inherited, but ruin it in such a brazen way that everyone knows he’s ruined it. Yet he’s too far gone to understand that, or to understand the urgency of the situation, or to do anything other than go out and hawk cars for his dementia caretaker. That’s right, Elon Musk has now gone from a respected “innovator” to a pariah to a guy whose net worth is collapsing and who’s stooping to coddling a dementia patient in an effort to salvage his failing life’s work. These two are a pair.
But really, what’s even going on here? The President of the United States is mentally incompetent. The surrogate he’s brought in to do the job for him is also mentally incompetent. Neither of them is capable of functioning in their own best interest, or even understanding their own best interest. Trump is tanking the US economy for no sane reason. Musk is tanking his own personal economy for no sane reason. And the rest of us are trying to fight back against them. The good news is that we’re cognitively competent enough to understand what the fight is even about. They’re not.
