We’re winning some of these battles against Donald Trump
When Donald Trump took power, I said that we were entering a very dark era and that a whole lot would go wrong. I also said that if we bothered to keep fighting, we would win at least some battles against Trump, and we would end up making a positive difference. Sure enough, we’re seeing that happen.
We all know what all is going wrong, all the scandals, all the crises, all the upheaval, all the losses. No need to recap it all. But it is worth pointing out the instances where Trump has lost and we’ve won.
For instance when Trump nominated Matt Gaetz for Attorney General, we sprang into action and created serious pushback, which helped convince Republican Senators to pull the plug on Gaetz. When Trump tried to shut off nearly all domestic assistance programs, he was taken to court and he was overturned.
Trump’s tariff stunt has ended with a whimper. Part of that is because Canada and Mexico stood up to Trump so strongly. But it also helped that we all made so much noise to begin with about how thoroughly we weren’t in favor of our own country’s new tariffs.
Trump has also been overruled in court when it comes to gutting assistance programs, employee buyouts, and even Elon Musk’s attempts at accessing the Treasury Department. These losses for Trump serve to slow him down, and give us time to try to get the upper hand.
We’re winning some of these battles. We’re also losing some of these battles. But we are winning some of them – and that matters. It means that our decision to keep fighting is the right one, and that we are still making a difference.
