Turns out Trump and the GOP really do have no ground game

The Kamala Harris campaign and the various activist groups supporting her campaign are, rather obviously, doing a historically strong job. All you have to do is look around on social media to see constant evidence of a massive ground game. We’re seeing an overwhelming number of people knocking on doors, phone banking, and working to register voters. Many of you reading this are among them.

On the other side of the fence, it’s long felt like the Donald Trump campaign and the Republican Party have had no ground game at all. There have been scattered reports of Trump having far too few field offices in swing states and such. But has Trump’s ground game merely looked small in comparison to Kamala’s massive ground game, or does Trump actually not have a ground game? Now we have our answer.

The Associated Press has published a lengthy article exposing the startling fact that the Trump campaign and the GOP really do have basically no ground game. There’s just about no one knocking on doors in swing states. Even some local Republican officials are raising questions about why they’re seeing no evidence of a ground game from their party or candidate.

This isn’t surprising. Donald Trump is only “running” for President to try to raise money for his mounting legal bills, as he still tries to find a way to keep himself out of prison. So of course the money that’s coming in isn’t going back out for things like field offices or ground game efforts.

Whenever it’s further revealed just how bad of shape Trump is in, the contrarian hot takes always pour in about how Trump’s lack of effort to try to win is somehow proof that he’s already somehow magically locked up the election and doesn’t need to try to win. But such takes are a joke. When we get news about Trump being in bad shape, it’s not somehow secretly evidence that he’s magically in great shape. It simply means he’s in bad shape.

Let’s also keep in mind that Trump has surrounded himself with complete amateurs. He’s always hired the worst people for as long as he’s been in politics. But most of his original hires have since either been criminally indicted or have run away from him screaming. Even the people he hired for his barely-there 2020 campaign seem to have scattered. His 2024 “campaign” seems to consist of him sitting on the couch while the buffoons around him goad him into doing yet another NFT scheme. These aren’t people who even understand what a campaign ground game is, let alone the importance of one.

So now we know that, with just six weeks to go, Donald Trump and the GOP indeed have no ground game. This is crucial because it gives us the edge. They’re not bothering to knock on the doors of registered Republicans to remind them to go vote. But we’re going to spend these six weeks knocking on the doors of as many folks on our side as possible, in order to drive turnout as high as possible. It’s why we’re going to win.
