Roger Ailes. Bill O’Reilly. Tucker Carlson. And Donald Trump. There’s a lesson to be learned here, friends and readers, and that Lesson is — power is not eternal. Nobody is immune from the hubris effect. Once hubris claws its way into one’s soul, anything can (and usually does) happen.

This is because people get to big for their britches. They think they can do anything they want. They feel the power melting through their bones, and they get drunk on it. They think it is unstoppable, an unending fire where they’re one of the “chosen few,” the anointed, the crowned.

Only they’re not. They’re having a moment. But moments come and go. Nothing lasts forever, not even power. And it’s usually those that NEED it who are the last to see its reversal coming. Most of these poor souls think it can never happen. It’s like they’re in a storybook, yes? A fairy tale where their words reign supreme, where people hang on every morsel out of their mouths.

The real lesson is “this too shall pass.” It is rare indeed, almost unheard of, to be able to maintain that type of power for such a long time. Eyes are always on you. And though these people make the mistake of thinking the eyes hold nothing but approval, that is wrong.

For there are always new sycophants waiting in the wings. There are always bosses whose souls are stone-cold who don’t care about the messenger because they know other messengers will come along. There are millions of them.

So they gets carried away. And then the music stops. The party ends. The sweets are yanked away, and the lights flicker, and then they die entirely. How does one suppose Tucker Carlson is feeling right now? Not good, I’d imagine. Pretty lousy most likely.

For yes, he may get another gig. He may start a podcast. He may even find a lesser-known network. But Tucker as a force is gone forever. He is O-V-E-R. That which he likely thought was not possible has become his reality.

Tucker Carlson thought he WAS Fox news – its mouth and its soul. But there are millions of mouths out there, and the fox has no soul. Tucker is finding out the hard way that he is already yesterday’s news.
