Trump world just gave away that it knows it’s losing

We all know that Donald Trump – historically unpopular, riddled with dementia, unable to sell his agenda, and now facing a divided base over his Iran stunt – is losing. That doesn’t mean America is winning. The sad reality is that the United States is being harmed each and every day by Trump, even as he flails and fails. If anything, with his unpopularity driving him to things like his Iran stunt, we have to be more vigilant now than ever. But I’ll tell you something: Trump world has sure figured out that it’s losing.
I usually try to avoid giving much attention to pro-Trump pundits, simply because attention – positive or negative – is what they thrive on. Why would I want to help these types out with their business model by criticizing them day in and day out? That said, as Trump has managed to pit his base against itself this week by putting the prospect of war with Iran on the table, some of those pro-Trump pundits are signaling that they know Trump is in trouble.
For one thing, there’s Steve Bannon. He hasn’t been on the inside of things in Trump world in years. Nor has he been relevant in years. But yesterday he announced that the Trump regime should investigate Fox News as a potential agent of a foreign government. That’s right, Trump is in such deep trouble that even Fox News can’t figure out how to cover for him anymore, and Fox’s increasingly muted praise of Trump is leading Bannon to call for Fox to be taken down entirely.
Then there’s Candace Owens. How’s her business model going? This week she announced that she’s embarrassed to have ever supported Trump to begin with. Again, these types will say anything for attention. But apparently being a pro-Trump pundit is now such a losing game that Owens has decided to become an… anti-Trump pundit?
Again, I don’t like to give these types of pro-Trump pundits attention on anything approaching a regular basis. But it’s not coincidence that one of them threw Fox News under the bus this week for not being supportive enough of Trump, and another one of them threw Trump himself under the bus this week for not being viable enough anymore.
Trump world sure seems to believe that Donald Trump’s failed Iran gambit is the beginning of the end for him. Of course we’ve been waiting for this cretin to bottom out for a decade. And even if he does become so deeply unpopular that his cheerleaders run away from him and he can’t move his agenda at all, we’ll still be stuck with him for another three and a half years or whenever the dementia gets him. But still, I’d rather have an unpopular and weak Trump than a strong and popular Trump. So the trend we’re witnessing this week has to be seen as good news.
