Trump just got played

In Greek Mythology, Achilles was just about perfect. He was a perfect specimen, the secret weapon of war. Only — there was just one problem. His heel. Ah, that is where the phrase, Archilles’ heel comes from. If, say, an arrow were to strike his heel, Achilles would be done. That is precisely what happened. Everybody has an Archilles’ heel. Donald John Trump has many. And it looks like NATO found ONE of them out.

Can you guess? You can. FLATTERY. NATO launched a charm offensive that was as sugary-sweet as maple syrup. Flattering old sourpuss. Complimenting old sourpuss. It was like a jolly bunch of elves swarming around the old sourpuss, jollily trying to bring a smile to the senile face. And it worked. Oh, how it worked!

As you know, old sour-grapes Trump has had little use for NATO. There are few kind words he has said about them. But NATO appears to have found the thing that would allow them to claim victory over a person who rarely has a nice word to say about anyone — unless, of course, they kiss his ass.

“Pulled off a diplomatic master stroke.” The NATO chief has been launching a major charm offensive, and it has caught attention. He praised Trump’s decision to attack Iran. At first, people were indignant. What, they pondered, was the man doing? But that was gradually replaced by — admiration

Of course, the “daddy” comment is also part of this charm offensive. And surprise! All of a sudden, Trump was excitedly yipping away about how great NATO is. “These people really love their countries,” a surprisingly chipper Trump said of NATO., all of a sudden miraculously free of the spell of doom and gloom that he’s been walking around with toward them.

You know, of course, what this means– Trump got played. Trump got played — and played — and played. We know it, but he does not. It’s like a delicious secret we all share. It’s like a “we’re all in this joke together” mentality, which happens to be true. NATO, at this point, has cracked the code so to speak. It is flattery. That is Trump’s Archilles’ Heel, and Putin has known that for a long time.

Flatter Trump — get what you want. And we need NATO to be strong and hold together. NATO knows that. So they played their winning hand — and they played Donald Trump. It was glorious. It’s said that behind his back, many of these countries are laughing at him. (So are we.) And why shouldn’t they? But you see, the key to old smeller’s approval has always been about flattery — even if the flatterer doesn’t mean what they say. After all, when one’s ego is that huge and their self-esteem that low, flattery is all they have left. Trump got played — and it won’t be the last time, believe me.
