Of all the arrogant miscalculations that Elon Musk has made over the past three weeks, the biggest has been his assumption that no one would fight back. He thought he could simply steamroll and plunder various government agencies. But those agencies and are fighting back. They’re winning battles in court, and now one of them is even going on the offensive.
The Treasury Department has now launched a forensic investigation into how one of Elon Musk’s people was given permission to alter the department’s database. That’s right, permission to alter the database.
It’s not difficult to imagine the dire implications of such a thing. And now the Treasury Department is vowing to get to the bottom of these antics. We’ll see where this goes. But the real upshot is that the more things Musk tries to break, the more pushback he’s facing.
