This is just staggering

Donald Trump held a signing ceremony for an executive order this week and then wandered off without signing it, but I’m not here to talk about Trump’s worsening dementia today. I’m here to talk about something that’s in danger of getting overlooked amidst all the rest of the chaos: the staggeringly blatant corruption.
Yesterday Trump announced that he’s lifting all sanctions against Syria. This seemingly came out of nowhere and made no real sense, unless you were aware that Syria’s leader had just publicly pitched the idea of a Trump Tower Damascus. That’s right, Trump is now dropping sanctions against a country because that government is offering to let him build a hotel in that country.
This is precisely what the President of the United States is not supposed to be able to do. It’s also just mind blowingly brazen. Trump isn’t even trying to hide it. He’s criminally abusing the presidency to personally enrich himself on a level that even he didn’t attempt last time around.
It’s a reminder that Donald Trump is going to try to get away with everything he possibly can, as quickly and brazenly as he possibly can, like a man who’s running out of time and money. He’s not playing the long game here. Whoever is making a senile Trump’s decisions for him is trying to cash in before Trump fully reaches the Weekend at Bernie’s stage.
There’s probably not anything we can do to stop Trump from dropping sanctions in exchange for personal enrichment. But it does underscore why we have to keep fighting him as fiercely as possible on every front that we can fight him on. Our job is to take his power away from him. He’s not nearly as strong as he was a month or two ago. We just have to keep chipping away at him.
