I’ve said it before, and I will repeat it. I will say it and say it and SAY IT, until the cows come home. Books are objects of beauty. Books are like roses; you pick one up, inhale its luscious scent, and then move on to the magic of the next one…and the next……and the next…

That is why I feel for Texans. A new bill will go before Texas Senators for a vote. This bill would require a complete overhaul of how books are put in libraries in Texas. Sigh. You know where this is going, don’t you?

SCHOOL BOARDS would get the final say. In other words, librarians would NOT have the power to decide what books are on their own library shelves. No, now it’d be people on the school boards who would get the final say over each book.

The Texas Republicans say this bill is needed because “young brains cannot unsee what they see.” Unsee? Unsee? Are you f’ in KIDDING? Let me tell you something, my friends. I have been open with you about my own childhood struggles, and how books essentially saved my life — or at least my education.

Contrary to what Republicans say, there are no pornographic books lurking, like age-old cobwebs, deep in library walls. There are simply books.

Large books, small books, fiction, non-fiction, history books and classics, simmering mystery books, and informative non-fiction, shelves upon shelves upon SHELVES of delicious books, the ultimate flowers of knowledge that have likely saved MANY A child, who have sat at these library desks, eyes bulging with joy, as new information seeped into them, grew them, nurtured them and helped them.

I wish I had rowboats of books I could gift these darling children with. Each book is invaluable. This new bill in Texas is a clear and present danger, just like all their cockamamy abortion laws. It is sad, but Texas is becoming more primitive, just like other red states.
