This is blowing up in the GOP’s face

Were I able to have a conversation with the mythological boy, Icarus, I’d ask him earnestly why he did it. Why did he not listen to his father? He was warned, and he was warned with all the love a father has for his son, but still, alight with hubris and excitement churning inside him, he and his waxen wings flew too close to the meltingly hot sun and fell to the earth below. So yes. I’d ask him why he did it. What was going through his mind? Why did he not heed the warnings, the calls that rang out like battle cries? Stay below and do not hover around the sun. For the sun glows like one giant gold roman candle, true, but it has its boundaries. And it is quick to punish if one gets too close. The GOP got way too close. They thought nothing could ever hurt them, that they were invincible. I’ve got news for them: nobody invincible, least of all them. It’s being reported that behind the scenes, the hubris that has defined the Republican party has melted, leaving only panic.
“Bracing for turbulence.” The GOP is worried about holding the Senate in the midterms. Politico reports that the midterms are becoming a bigger headache than they ever thought they would be. The GOP is having a lot of issues with candidate recruitment. When Brian Kemp of Georgia declined a senate run, many in the GOP became terrified that Marjorie Taylor Greene would run—something many do not want.
Likewise, in New Hampshire, GOP Governor Chris Sununu also declined to run. Yes, the GOP cannot find suitable candidates for Senate runs, so it would seem. Then there’s Texas. Evil Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton seems bent on priming Senator John Cornyn. In other states like North Carolina, incumbents are under the threat of MAGA candidates primarying them.
All is not well in GOP-land. And they’re scared. They’re scared of the polls, of the anger from constituents, of multiple losses, of quacks running potentially disastrous races. It’s all blowing up in their faces. So, my friends on the right, where is your hubris now? Has it melted like delicate waxen wings? Or is it merely taking a breather? Republicans right now are on the losing side. And judging by their petrified horror- they damn well know it.
