This idiot Trump just can’t help himself
It’s a sad thing to say, but no one out there among the general public cares about January 6th anymore. We saw that point driven home with the 2024 election results. Trump incited the attack for all to see, yet the dummies in the middle turned around and voted for him in 2024 anyway.
The thing is, Trump just can’t ever manage to leave a stroke of good fortune like that alone. He can’t help himself. All he would have to do is ignore January 6th and treat it like it never happened, and it wouldn’t be an issue for him.
But instead he’s obsessed with forcing January 6th back into the spotlight so he can re-litigate the whole thing. He’s already pardoned 1500 people who were criminally charged in relation to the attack. He’s also freed the founder of the Proud Boys and the leader of the Oath Keepers from prison, even though they’re generally widely regarded as terrorists. And it looks like Trump also has the Republican House gearing up to hold hearings aimed at rewriting what happened that day.
This is of course because Trump’s fragile narcissism still has him obsessed with pretending that he won the 2020 election. He just can’t let it go. He’s not interested in taking advantage of the fact that he won this election. He’s more focused on “proving” that he won the previous election – even if it means dredging up January 6th again in such outrageous fashion that the general public does go back to caring about it.
If Trump really wants to go this route, by all means, go for it. He’s already got police unions condemning him for having pardoned January 6th cop beaters. He’s handing the Democrats an easy line of attack to use against him, in that he’s literally putting violent convicted criminals out on the street (and even talking about inviting them to the White House). Trump is making a mess for himself. Good. Let’s use it against him.
