It’s hard to say any one thing about the former guy’s dumpster fire of a town hall. As much as the doomers will fret about it suddenly making Donald Trump more powerful than ever – it’s not really clear how it will do anything beyond rally up the usual idiot base that will support him no matter what.

Perhaps the most telling part of it will be what happens to all involved within the next several days, as any practical value this town hall might have held has clearly backfired. If the main objective was to get ratings, as nearly everything in the modern news cycle seems to be, the Trump town hall did worse than his town halls did in 2016. Despite the regular arguments about President Biden’s electability, it even lost out to the ratings of President Biden’s most recent town hall.

Perhaps the worst thing it did for the former guy, however, was make him once again a prominent threat. Jan 6 seemed a distant memory as we approached the two-year anniversary of when Trumpers attacked the Capitol – but now he’s back on TV calling it a beautiful day.

Trump’s fraudulent elector scheme and regular attempts to overturn the 2020 election seemed farcical for awhile, but nearly three years after the fact, he’s on TV still insisting the election was stolen. It’s easy to be fearful of current Republicans in power – but this is a reminder that with or without Trump, the GOP is still a formidable threat and their disdain for democracy will be there regardless of who is in charge of it.
