Earlier this week Donald Trump announced that things were going fantastic between his cabinet and Elon Musk. Absolutely fantastic. Couldn’t be more fantastic. At the time I flagged it as being important, because you don’t announce something like that unless the opposite is true. I said it would be just a matter of time before ugly details started surfacing about whatever was going on behind the scenes between Musk and the cabinet. Now it’s happening.

During the cabinet meeting, Elon Musk got into it with Trump’s Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The New York Times says that it culminated with Musk dismissively telling Rubio that he was merely “good on TV,” implying that he wasn’t good at anything else. Tellingly, this same report says that as Musk and Rubio feuded with each other, Trump just sat there.

No wonder Trump, or whoever is writing his social media posts for him at this point, felt compelled to make that post this week insisting that Musk and the cabinet are getting along wonderfully. It’s only been six weeks and Musk and Rubio are already going at each other face to face. There are also separate reports of Musk feuding with Trump’s Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy over Musk’s attempt at firing air traffic controllers.

Of course this all culminated in the Trump regime announcing this week that Musk no longer had the power to fire or lay off anyone in the government, and that agency heads would make those decisions instead. This essentially stripped Musk of all power, suggesting Trump (or whoever is making his decisions for him) is siding with the cabinet. But what happens when a dementia riddled Trump forgets this decision was made, and wakes up next week and announces something different? This is, after all, a guy who announced new 250% tariffs one day after announcing he was delaying his tariffs. He does not know or remember what he’s doing from literally one day to the next.

The truly revealing part in all of this is that these feuds are now making their way to the media. Remember, this kind of thing doesn’t just magically fall into a reporter’s hands. Someone in the room has to make a point of giving it to a reporter. So in each of these instances, someone in Trump’s inner circle is making sure these feuds become public knowledge. This will only get uglier within the Trump regime. Six weeks and it’s collapsing in on itself already.
