There’s only one way out of this
Earlier this week we saw one of the most jarringly bizarre moments in the history of the Oval Office, when Donald Trump sat at his desk half asleep while Elon Musk stood over him and held a press conference with his kid on his shoulders. The moment confirmed two things we already knew: Trump is too deep into dementia to know what’s going on, and Musk is the President. Now it’s gotten even more jarring.
Yesterday the Prime Minister of India visited the White House and held a formal meeting with – you guessed it – Elon Musk. We’re only three weeks in, and we’re already at a point where Musk isn’t even trying to hide the fact that he’s stolen the Presidency, and Trump’s handlers aren’t even trying to hide the fact that he’s a goner.
As with so many other things we’ve witnessed of late, words don’t immediately come to mind to characterize this. The United States has no President. Donald Trump’s brain is a bag of cheese. And it’s not even the Vice President who’s running the country on his behalf. Instead it’s the world’s wealthiest man, who isn’t even constitutionally eligible to serve as President, and who also happens to be completely mentally unstable.
There’s a reason I spent the entire 2024 election cycle focusing on Trump’s senility: he wasn’t going to be able to do the job even if he won. Unfortunately the media collectively decided to bury the story, refusing to admit that Trump was senile, even while eagerly pretending that Biden was senile. But if the public had known that Trump was completely senile, he wouldn’t have won. He wouldn’t have come close. And now we wouldn’t be stuck with the world’s most dangerously unstable person running the country into the ground while Trump sits there wondering what’s going on.
I still believe that the answer to all of this is to highlight Trump’s senility. The only reason a psychopath like Musk has been able to usurp the presidency is that Trump is too far gone to understand or care what’s going on. He just sits there. If you want to turn mainstream Americans against Trump and Musk both, make them see that Trump is cognitively unfit. Drive his approval rating into the thirties so it’ll cripple his political muscle, and open the door for others around Trump to force Musk out. Then we can spend the rest of the term running out the clock against a powerless and confused Trump.
Until we can make mainstream America understand that Trump is senile, we’ll be stuck President Musk meeting with foreign leaders in the White House and cutting who knows what kind of insane deals that are fundamentally bad for America.
