There is no bottom
I do love the word redemption. That’s because this writer believes in second chances. Redemption is a powerful word, a word I treasure. It brings forth images of an American flag, flying high on a windswept day, offering mercy and benevolence and second chances.
That might be why the word “redemption” coming out of the mouth of House Speaker Mike Johnson me throw up a little bit in my mouth. Redemption, the Jolly anti-porn speaker, piped up when asked his feelings about cop killers been pardoned.
Redemption! Everybody’s entitled to redemption, the fool continued brightly. Wrong! This writer believes in redemption as I said. But ONLY if one is truly sorry. These TERRORISTS are not and will never be sorry. But Mike Johnson has his ducks in a row. He has his careful script, and talking points.
Mr. Johnson certainly didn’t talk about redemption for four years as he and his band of quacks hammered President Biden on everything from the way he ate ice cream to his son Hunter Biden. There was no redemption talk. Is redemption merely fit for Republicans, or is it just a tool pulled-out of a toolbox to be used as a political weapon whenever Mike Johnson feels like it? I would go with choice number two.
As tragic as the pardons are, there is something hilarious about frantic and awkward republicans, reaching into their bags of tricks to try with desperation to come up with excuses, and each one of these excuses sounds more insane than the one before.
I have another word for Johnson. It’s called remorse. R-E-M-O-R-S-E. This is a word few Republicans appear to understand. Redemption can be nobody’s without genuine remorse. Nor, I suspect do Johnson and his cronies give a hoot about Trump’s horrific pardons.
These pardons hold real risk of backlash which we’re already starting to see. I think Johnson might come to regret his calls of redemption and his remorse — or lack thereof.
