The Resistance officially begins
On Saturday, April 5, 2025, the Resistance officially began. Protests took place in virtually every state at more than 1,200 events NBC News reported. The protests were called “Hands Off,” and while 600,000 RSVPed, CNN said the crowds together where over one million. The organizers said that Trump and Musk seem to believe that the country belongs to them: “They’re taking everything they can get their hands on-our health care, our data, our jobs, and services-and daring the world to stop them. This is a crisis, and the time to act is now.” “Crisis” is putting it mildly. Trump and Musk have turned this country upside down. This is what happens when you think you’re the smartest man in the room, only to find that you are the dumbest. This is being exacerbated by Republicans remaining quiet about what is going on like a bunch of ventriloquist dummies.
Many of the protesters are concerned about their Social Security, as they should be. According to the Guardian, staffers are revealing what is going on behind the scenes at SSA. Some staffers told the Guardian that: “the changes at SSA have caused ‘complete, utter chaos’ and are threatening to send the agency into a ‘death spiral.'” Another employee shared with the Guardian: “They have these ‘concepts’ of plans that they’re hoping are sticking but in reality, they are really hurting American people.” The SSA website has repeatedly crashed, and changes being made by DOGE will only do more damage, including a full system collapse. Apparently, Donald Trump and Elon Musk have never heard the phrase “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” SSA has been working well for years. Yes, they’re getting close to running out of money and can’t fix the problem without Congress, but as far as the administration of the agency, they have done an amazing job with what they had. Now, the entire system is at risk as DOGE plans to eliminate 7,000 jobs from an agency that was already understaffed. The fraud claimed by Musk is virtually nonexistent, as employees explain that DOGE employees don’t know the system, and when they couldn’t understand something, they called it illegal or fraudulent. Making matters worse is the “president” who has empowered Musk and who doesn’t care.
Trump’s focus is on his beloved tariffs, which everyone has said will not provide the results Trump claims. It is amazing that while several Republicans are pushing back on Trump about tariffs, not one has spoken up about the harm he is doing to people. We know where their loyalties lie, and it’s not with us. An anonymous source told the Washington Post: “He’s at the peak of just not giving a f— anymore. Bad news stories? Doesn’t give a f—. He’s going to do what he’s going to do. He’s going to do what he promised to do on the campaign trail.” Obviously, this relates to tariffs and nothing else he promised on the campaign trail. Republicans fear the results of those tariffs will hurt them both in 2026 and 2028. Let’s hope they do. They should have done their jobs instead of standing by and watching Trump and Musk destroy this country.
