Republicans who refused to go along with Donald Trump’s election lies are sticking to their belief that the 2020 election was fair. They continue to attempt to downplay the nonsense in various ways. In Georgia, Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger secured the Republican nomination for the upcoming election, despite Trump’s attempts to harass and discredit him. Raffensperger continues to reveal that he has no use for the election lies and showing his disdain for the machinations of election deniers, he has decided to replace some of the election equipment in Georgia-the equipment that was illegally breached by people working for Sidney Powell.

As Reuters reported, the equipment Raffensperger has targeted is in South Georgia. Information came out that these machines had been breached, but the video surveillance sealed the deal for Raffensperger. As reported by several media outlets, that footage clearly showed people who had no business accessing voting machines not only gained access to them but copied software and data. These people had a lot of nerve. Just who in the hell did they think died and left them in charge to do such a thing? Reuters repeated the news from Washington Post that these people copied “virtually every component of the voting system.” This is the type of behavior that makes voting unfair, yet they seemed to think they were doing what was right even after courts and investigators showed that nothing untoward happened in the 2020 election. Unlike these people, Raffensperger made no secret of his intent.

He issued a statement: “To allay the fears being stoked by perennial election deniers and conspiracy theorists, we’re replacing Coffee County’s election machines.” He reiterated that his office would continue to investigate the former election officials who allowed this to happen. Raffensperger isn’t the only Republican who is apparently sick of the lies about the election and the destruction it caused. According to CNN, McConnell is set to back the electoral bill. McConnell said that the January 6 insurrection “certainly underscored the need for an update,” and he said that he will “proudly support the legislation,” which makes clear that the vice president’s role is merely ceremonial, will make it more difficult to pass off fake electors as real electors, and increases the number of members of Congress necessary to object to certification. This bill will make it harder for future election deniers to duplicate the chaos created by Donald Trump following the 2020 election.

McConnell believes that the bill as introduced: “Keeps what’s worked well and modestly updates what has not.” In other words, there are no extremes in this bill and only extreme Republicans could realistically object to its passage. Of course, there are plenty of extremists in Washington right now, but if moderate Republicans get on board, the bill has a strong chance of passing. Though Republicans are still not worthy of mass support, it is helpful when some of them admit to the problems we’re facing and get on board with trying to fix those problems.
